Hot Water Heat Pumps

Hot water heat pumps (HWHPs) are supported with financial incentives under a range of energy efficiency and emissions reductions / renewables programs across Australia. Some of these programs provide detailed requirements on installation of HWHPs in order for the installation to be eligible for incentives for households, small businesses and commercial and industrial (C&I) businesses.

Published Information

The sample list below includes published information available to the Australian market - you will need to check if newer editions exist. (This list is provided in good faith, with all care and no responsibility.) Those documents published by governments to support certificate creation, for example under the energy savings schemes, are generally published following targeted and public consultations, and those consultations are generally still accessible on the internet.

Standards

  1. Australian Standard 2712, Solar and heat pump water heaters - Design and construction (First published 1984, Reconfirmed 2020), Standards Australia. Abstract: Specifies performance-based requirements for the design and construction of both components of solar and heat pump hot water supply systems, and complete systems, for household premises and for commercial and industrial installations comparable with household installations, intended to deliver drinking water of acceptable quality. Heat pumps installed under major schemes in Australia require this standard to be met as part of the product approval process by scheme regulators.
