VEET launches project-based activities to save energy, 21 June 2017
The door has just been opened for any business in Victoria to be eligible for financial incentives to implement project-based energy efficiency improvements provided under the Victorian energy savings scheme, the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET).
“Commercial and industrial upgrades are now available including: heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), industrial refrigeration and freezing, fans and pumps, lighting, and process change and control systems. To date, businesses have primarily accessed financial incentives only for commercial lighting,” said Energy Efficiency Certificate Creators Association (EECCA) President Mr Hamish McGovern.
“The energy savings industry welcomes the long-awaited launch of this initiative on 19 June 2017 by the Victorian Government. We can now work with customers on projects that require a range of individual monitoring benchmarks and data collection over time to determine the energy savings that can be achieved with more energy efficient equipment upgrades.”
This type of initiative is already available under the NSW Energy Savings Scheme and is enabling a growing number of energy efficiency upgrade projects to be implemented.
Energy efficiency upgrades put downward pressure on peak and baseload electricity demand and there is significant opportunity for extensive rollout across Victoria.
“Victorians can gain significant relief from surging gas prices which are influencing rising electricity prices and energy bills.
“Training for energy customers and service providers has been launched with support from both the Victorian and NSW governments to help identify opportunities for improved energy management focussing on energy efficiency. This should dovetail effectively with the financial incentives available through the energy savings schemes.
“This is all good news for the largely unrecognised energy savings sector and the contribution it can make to energy supply and demand, security and greenhouse gas abatement,” concluded Mr McGovern.
